It is far too easy to get caught up in our hectic daily routines and forget to take time out for ourselves. Stress and worry can affect your quality of life, your mental health and even your physical health. Some people use a hobby to wind down, watch the TV, or play a game such as darts. Different things work for different people; having somewhere in your house where you can go to chill and forget the stress of your day is so significant. This is where a man cave becomes your new best friend, somewhere to spend time with friends, or by yourself, without interruption.

What Is Stress?

Stress is a feeling that can make you feel irritable, anxious and ill. Experiencing high amounts of stress for extended periods can lead to physical and emotional exhaustion. This gets called burnout. Symptoms of stress can be heart palpitations, high blood pressure, muscle tension and irregular breathing.

Many things can cause stress; some common causes are family friction, work commitments and money worries. Experiencing stress in your life is normal, but if it happens frequently or for long periods, then it’s a good idea to talk to someone about your situation and take more care to incorporate relaxation into your daily routine.

What Is Relaxation?

Relaxation is a state where you feel calm, relaxed and free of stress. After periods of stress, your heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure should return to normal, making you feel more relaxed. Relaxation is a process that decreases stress, giving your mind and body a break.

Reasons Why Relaxation is Important (and How a Man Cave Helps!)

1.Improves Mental Health

Relaxation helps to improve the symptoms of mental health problems like anxiety and depression. Having a safe space where you go to relax helps to take away worries that may be associated with places such as work. It allows your stress levels to take a backseat, leaving the fear at work and not letting it affect your home life!

2.Time to Socialise

Spending time with friends is a crucial part of your routine. It helps take your mind off things such as money worries. Of course, you can go out with your mates, but this can get expensive and also, it’s nice to be in the comfort of your own home. Having a man cave means you always haVE space for you and your friends to hide away and take away your troubles. A game of pool can sort anything out.

3.Break from Your Routine

Weekly routines can get monotonous, work, housework, sleep, repeat. Taking time out from your busy life to partake in your hobby or just relax is important; it helps you unwind. Break from routine gives you a refresh to get on with the rest of the week with a positive attitude.

4.Energy Boost

Working can get tiring, and when you’re exhausted, your productivity can dip. Sleep is one of the most critical factors of a healthy lifestyle, but switching off and getting a good night’s sleep can be difficult for some. Having some relaxation time before bed can help you fall asleep; watching the TV with your popcorn machine in your man cave will help.

Allow Yourself To Relax

We are quite often led to believe that ‘sitting around doing nothing’ is just a total waste of time and we should always keep busy, but this can lead to burnout. It’s essential to allow yourself to take it slow and do whatever makes you happy and relaxed. If that means sitting and listening to music for a couple of hours, then take the time to do this! Allowing yourself quiet time should be in your weekly routine. A man cave is a perfect opportunity to escape to somewhere you won’t be disturbed.

Relaxation Techniques

So we’ve discussed why relaxation is essential and how a man cave can help you with this, but there are other ways to relax you can do pretty much anywhere. You can do them at work, in your car on your way home or in your man cave!

Meditation

Meditation can be pretty hard to master, but the process can be highly relaxing. To put it simply, meditating is the process of repeating a simple word, sound or phrase so that you can ignore any other thoughts coming into your head. A great way to stop thinking about stressful thoughts, giving your brain a well-earned break: you can even use an app to help you do this, such as headspace.

Breathing Techniques

When we’re stressed or anxious, our breathing often becomes rapid and shallow. Bringing your breathing back to a normal state can help you control your anxieties. Sit in a comfortable position, put one hand on your stomach and take long, deep beats. Feel your stomach rise with each breath and focus on your breathing. Gradually slow down your breathing as you go; this should help bring your breathing back to normal quite fast.

Exercise

Exercise is fantastic for mental health; many people swear by their workouts to help bring their anxiety down. It gives you something to focus on and can take your mind off things. It also improves your physical health, so the benefits to exercise are excellent. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy. This could be running or maybe a boxing class. There will be something out there for you!

Visualization

Think of a place that makes you feel happy and stress-free, and picture this in your head. Focus on the image; think of smells and sounds you would experience at this place. By focusing on these details, you can escape from where you are and your troubles of the day. This can eliminate stressful thoughts, calming your body and mind.
